Step 1: Receive Acceptance Letter

Congratulations on your acceptance to SUNY Genesee Community College! At this time, you should have received an acceptance letter from the Admissions Office.

Your acceptance letter will indicate the major in which you were accepted and the necessary information for creating a password and logging in to myGCC:

  • GCC NetID (username)
  • Student ID# (800XXXXXX)
  • myGCC Login: GCC NetID@8n99.com

For transfer credit, be sure that you have submitted official college/university transcripts, AP scores directly from College Board, or Joint Services Transcripts to: admissions@8n99.com.

Step 2: Set-Up Password

  1. Visit the SUNY GCC homepage.
  2. At the top right of the homepage you will see a prompt to log in to myGCC.
  3. After selecting myGCC, select Reset/Set up your password.
  4. Select either reset or set up your password.
  5. Enter your Username also known as GCC NetID.
  6. You will be prompted first for your Student ID and Birth month (numerical digit without a “zero”).
  7. You will then be prompted to create a password.
  8. Once you successfully create your password you will be able to Log in to myGCC.
  9. It will be helpful to maintain a copy of your username and password in a safe and secure location.

For technical assistance, call the HELP DESK at 1-866-614-5004 and choose Option 1.

Step 3: Placement Testing

All GCC students are required to meet the College proficiencies in math, reading, and English.

Placement in these courses is determined by a variety of measures including: Accuplacer, ACT/ SAT V scores, high school dual credit, Regents ELA scores, high school GPA, or previous college credit.

Students should review their Degree Works degree audit or contact ssc@8n99.com to determine if testing is required. To review your Degree Works degree audit:

  1. Log in to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Under Registration Tools, Select “Run a Degree Audit”.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you are advised to take the Accuplacer test, please contact placement@8n99.com to schedule an appointment.

If you live outside of Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, or Wyoming counties or the Buffalo or Rochester are go to the Remote Testing page for instructions on how to take the test remotely using Zoom.

Step 4: Set up an Advisement Appointment and Register for Classes

Option 1: Visit the Student Success Directory and schedule an in person or virtual advisement appointment with the Student Success Coach assigned to your major or Campus Center Advisor.

Option 2: Visit the Student Success Events and register for a GCC Virtual Registration Event. The virtual event will include a brief introduction of important resources and an opportunity to meet with an advisor to select and register for courses.

Prior to your appointment, you will need to

  • “Set-up password”
  • Successfully Log in to myGCC
  • Open and Review your Degree Works Degree Audit
  • Open ZOOM (if a virtual appointment)

Once you have opened Zoom, select Join a Meeting (desktop or laptop are recommended). Enter the Meeting ID provided to you. During the appointment, the advisor will discuss degree requirements, course options, and help with the registration process.

Step 5: Financial Aid

Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and TAP (NYS Tuition Assistance Program-New York State Residents) grant applications.

In order to complete the FAFSA and TAP applications you will need the following:

  • http://www.hesc.ny.gov/fafsaready
  • FSA ID for both student and parent/guardian (if a dependent student). Your FSA ID must be created 72 hours before completing the FAFSA. It will be helpful to maintain a copy of your FSA ID and password in a safe and secure location.
  • State and Federal Taxes
  • FAFSA (See “Complete the FAFSA® Form” at the Federal Student Aid website).
  • TAP (See “Apply for TAP” at the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation website).

For FREE assistance completing the FAFSA or TAP applications, complete the following form and an AEOC Outreach Specialist will contact you to set up an individualized financial aid appointment. Financial Aid Help

Once the applications are submitted and processed you will receive communication that includes PELL grant, TAP grant, and student loan eligibility. You can also review your award information in your myGCC account.

To review your Financial Aid Award information in myGCC:

  1. Log in to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Select Financial Aid Dashboard under Financial Aid
  5. Select Academic Award Year
  6. Select Award Offer tab
  7. Scroll down to view award

Some students are selected for verification and will receive communication that they are required to submit additional documentation. The College cannot pay out any federal grant or loan until the verification process is complete. You can find the verification forms on the Financial Aid Forms page.

You can access missing document information in your myGCC account.

PELL and TAP are grants that do not have to be paid back and funding is earned and maintained by student academic performance. Student loans are available to eligible students who are enrolled in six credit hours applicable to their major and also maintained by student academic performance. Student loans require acceptance in myGCC and completion of additional requirements.

To accept student loans in myGCC and complete additional requirements: *Amount accepted is disbursed over two semesters.

  1. Log in to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Select Financial Aid Dashboard under Financial Aid
  5. Select Academic Award Year
  6. Select Award Offer tab
  7. Scroll down to the Loans section
  8. Enter the dollar amount of award  to accept
  9. Select Accept
  10. Select Submit Go to studentaid.gov to complete Entrance Counseling (every academic year) and the eMPN (Master Promissory Note, only required once)

In order to receive student loans, student must also Log in to the Federal Student Aid website and complete:

  • Entrance Counseling
  • Master Promissory Note (MPN)

Apply for Work Study Award

  1. Log in to myGCC
  2. Select the Student tab
  3. Select the Career and Employment tab
  4. Select Click here to apply for Work Study eligibility
  5. Fill out the GCC Work study application
  6. Select Submit

Step 6: Certificate of Residence (New York State Residents Only)

Certificates of Residence cannot be dated more than sixty (60) days prior to your date of registration (no longer the start of classes). Click here for important Certificate of Residence due dates. If you are registered for classes that start after the beginning of the term, click here for Student Accounts dates and deadlines.

Genesee County Residents, please download and fill out the Certificate of Residence Application and email it to COR@8n99.com.

For other New York State Residents, who live outside of Genesee County, please also download and fill out the Certificate of Residence Application.

  • Submit the application and any required proof of residence to your County Treasurer’s office. Contact your County Treasurer’s Office for county-specific requirements.
  • Forward your valid Certificate of Residence (not the application) to COR@8n99.com once your County issues the certificate.

PLEASE NOTEFailure to turn in a valid Certificate of Residence will result in double tuition charges being assessed.

Step 7: Billing

Student Accounts sends notices when an ebill is available for your viewing to both your GCC and personal email accounts. Be sure to login to myGCC and follow the instructions in the email to view your most recent ebill in your statement history.

To view Student Account

  1. Select view my account detail for term under student accounts.
  2. Select a term.

To view your bill

  1. Select view my statement history under student accounts.
  2. A list of electronic billing statements (E-Bills) will display.
  3. Select the most recent date within the current term.

To pay your bill

  1. Select make a payment under student accounts.
  2. Nelnet will redirect you to their website for payment.
  3. Select make a payment.

To enroll in an online payment plan

  1. Select manage my payment plan under student accounts.
  2. Nelnet will redirect you to their website for payment.
  3. Select set up a payment plan if it is visible.

To manage Your Refund

  1. Select manage my refunds under student accounts.
  2. Nelnet will redirect you to their website.
  3. Select manage refunds and confirm your identity.
  4. Select your refund method.
  5. Enter all required information & select save.

Step 8: Authorize Aid for Bookstore Use

To use remaining financial aid toward the purchase of books, students need to Authorize Aid for Bookstore Use one time in their myGCC account:

  1. Log in to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Select Authorize Funds for Bookstore use under Financial Aid
  5. Read both boxes and check as appropriate
  6. Select Submit

Step 9: Submit Immunization Records

Proof of Immunization against measles, mumps and rubella is required of anyone born after 1956, who is enrolling for six or more credit hours (with at least one of those credit hours occurring on campus). Students who do not provide such proof may be dropped from registered classes in accordance with New York State health law and will have a hold placed on their account. All students registering for six or more credit hours must complete and return a meningitis response form. It is NOT necessary to have the meningitis vaccine; however, you do have to sign a waiver if you elect to not have the meningitis immunization. Those who fail to comply with these New York State laws will be prohibited from attending classes.

Acceptable documentation includes: Signed and stamped (by physician/physician’s office) immunization form from GCC, New York State Immunization Information System printout, screenshot of immunizations from your qualified health provider’s portal, titer results from a blood draw showing immunity.

We cannot accept the following:  Information compiled from your K-12 school system, immunization records written by someone other than a qualified health professional.

You may also visit NYS Public Health Law Section 2165 and NYCRR Title 10, Subpart 66-2 for measles, mumps and rubella information and Public Health Law Section 2167 for information related to meningococcal meningitis.

To view which immunization records you have submitted, visit myGCC:

  1. Log in to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Under Student Records, Select “Find Student Services”
  5. Select Personal Information tab
  6. Select Health Center Menu
  7. Select Student Immunizations Display

Step 10: View your Schedule:

  1. Login to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Under Student Records, Select Registration/View Schedule
  5. Select View Registration Information
  6. Select the current term and print icon

Step 11: View your Course Details and Instructional Methods:

  1. Login to myGCC
  2. Select My Account Tab
  3. Select My Banner Self-Service
  4. Under Student Records, Select Registration/View Schedule
  5. Select View Registration Information
  6. Click on each individual course to view a pop-up that contains Class Details, Instructor/Meeting Times, and Section Notes.

Step 12: View your Course Requirements and Syllabus:

  1. Login to myGCC
  2. Select My Courses tab
  3. Select Brightspace to access your courses. Courses will be unavailable until the instructor opens the course closer to the start date of the semester, typically the Friday before class begins.
  4. Specific and detailed information about your courses will be provided to you directly by your instructors. Please continue to check your GCC student e-mail account AND check your Blackboard account frequently.
  5. To locate your instructor’s contact information visit GCC Faculty.

Step 13: View/Order your Course Textbook:

  1. Visit 8n99.com
  2. Hover over Campus Life and select Bookstore
  3. Select Shop the GCC Online Book Store
  4. Select Find Course Materials
  5. Enter course information and select Retrieve Materials
